Harrison 'Stormy' Storms led the design of the Apollo Command and Service Module at North American Aviation, the spacecraft that carried astronauts to the Moon and back. He had previously managed the X-15 programme, producing the hypersonic research aircraft that reached the edge of space and informed the design of every subsequent re-entry vehicle. The Apollo CSM he oversaw was arguably the most complex crewed vehicle of its era, requiring innovations in heat shield technology, life support, and guidance that pushed engineering to its limits.
