The European Space Agency, an intergovernmental organization of 22 member states headquartered in Paris. ESA developed the Ariane rocket family, which gave Europe independent access to space and dominated the commercial geostationary launch market for two decades. The agency has conducted ambitious science missions including Rosetta, which landed on a comet, and contributed critical modules to the International Space Station. ESA is a partner on the James Webb Space Telescope and the Artemis lunar program.
